In short: yes, it is worth going—but with the right expectations.

Of course, ski resorts in Ukraine vary in size, pricing, and level of infrastructure, and each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Overall, one of the main benefits of skiing in Ukraine is affordability compared with resorts in other European countries: ski passes, accommodation, food, and excursions are generally less expensive here than at many winter resorts in Europe. In addition, the Ukrainian Carpathians offer a chance to immerse yourself in local culture and experience an authentic atmosphere, as ski resorts are located across different regions—Zakarpattia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi—each known for its unique ethnic character. The Ukrainian Carpathians provide skiing options suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers. And there is always a sense of hospitality and a homely atmosphere—this is the true soul of Ukraine.

Despite the many advantages of Ukraine’s winter resorts, it is worth considering a few nuances when deciding on a trip. Infrastructure across ski resorts is uneven: Bukovel and Drahobrat are modern but relatively more expensive and often crowded, while smaller resorts are quieter and cosier but may offer a more limited range of services and simpler equipment and facilities. In addition, winter weather recently can be unstable, especially at lower elevations, and artificial snowmaking is not available everywhere. Logistics can also be more challenging in less popular destinations, and reaching resorts such as Drahobrat, Pylypets, or Myhove may require using several modes of transport.

To make the most of your time and enjoy a great holiday despite these factors, it is best to plan your trip during winter and, where possible, check weather conditions at your chosen destination. Accommodation should be booked in advance, as during peak season—especially around the Christmas and New Year period—availability can be very limited. It is also worth carefully planning your route to the resort and checking whether there are other interesting places nearby that you can visit between skiing sessions.

A ski trip to Ukraine is an opportunity to combine active recreation with discovering the beauty of the Carpathians and the authentic atmosphere of its regions. With proper planning, you can fully enjoy your winter holiday, gaining memorable experiences without unpleasant surprises.
